Your Colorkrew. My Colorkrew. Our Colorkrew.

Introduction

I’m from Romania, and for almost half my life I’ve been studying and investing most of my time into programming. I joined Colorkrew 6 months ago as a junior software engineer — this is my first full-time job.

I hope that through this article I can bring some transparency into what working at Colorkrew is actually like.

Why Colorkrew?

When I started looking for jobs in Japan, I had three non-negotiables: English communication, real growth opportunities, and healthy company values. As I went through job postings and dug into reviews, Colorkrew stood out — quite a few people who worked here had shared genuinely positive feedback about their experience.

Your Colorkrew

The Culture

Colorkrew is a flat organization. Despite seniority levels, you’re able to express your opinion, give feedback, and work with your team to improve the things you identify as problems. You’re given the freedom to find issues, come up with plans, and solve them — and you get rewarded for those contributions.

The pace is yours to set. Your career growth depends on how eager you are to improve and how passionate you are about what you do. If you believe in your own growth and you’re ready to push yourself, you’ll be given opportunities to do so.

Colorkrew runs on trust. If you can prove you’re trustworthy and that you’re looking for growth — not just for yourself but also for the company — you will be welcomed and given many opportunities.

That’s what “Your Colorkrew” means. The experience you have here is shaped by you. It can be your Colorkrew, if you decide to make it so.

My Colorkrew

The People

After joining, I was happy to find an environment with open, approachable people — colleagues who have become good friends outside of work too.

Something I appreciated early on was how accessible everyone is. When I first joined, the seniors on my team were the ones guiding me. But as I grew more comfortable, I started reaching out to leads from other teams across the engineering department — and they were always happy to help. People here will make time for you even when they’re busy, even when it’s outside their direct responsibility. That said, it’s on you to initiate. If you’re proactive and you ask, you’ll find that doors open very easily.

Another aspect I really appreciate is how the work actually feels — I communicate directly with the entire value chain, I’m given autonomy over decisions within my scope, and my team trusts me to own my work while stepping in to steer me back on track when needed.

My Growth

Once I settled into my responsibilities and proved I could be an independent contributor, I was given the chance to take on more. My path was unconventional: two months after joining, I was given full responsibility for a product. The risks were high and I wasn’t sure I could match the expectations, but I didn’t hesitate. My team was there to support me, and I always had access to the guidance I needed as long as I was proactive enough to ask for it.

Through managing and releasing that product, I grew in ways I couldn’t have imagined when I first started. Every three months, I find myself doing things I couldn’t even picture three months prior. I had set targets for myself, but looking back, the actual growth has far exceeded what I thought was possible at the time.

I’m now developing a new product from scratch, which has pushed me into areas I hadn’t touched before — infrastructure, cross-product communication, and integrations. What stands out to me is that I never felt overwhelmed by sudden jumps in complexity. I believe that’s by design — the engineering management does a great job of giving members progressively bigger challenges at a pace that fits their capabilities.

Our Colorkrew

Day to day

Colorkrew is a hybrid company with flex core time. I personally come to the office twice or three times a week, but it’s up to you to find the rhythm that works best. The company operates in English, so if that’s something you’re looking for in Japan, you won’t have to worry about a language barrier getting in the way of your work.

Beyond Work

There’s a real social side to Colorkrew. The company provides incentives for going out with colleagues, and people actually take advantage of it. Activities get organized almost every day — bouldering, badminton, hiking, running, board games. It’s not the kind of place where you clock out and everyone disappears.

Future prospects

When you’re considering a company, you’re naturally thinking about where it’s headed. In the past few years, the SaaS industry has been heavily impacted by AI, and job security feels like a bigger concern than it used to be.

Colorkrew is actively adopting AI technologies — but not to replace people. Instead, the focus is on expanding what we can deliver by using AI to increase our output and capabilities. I believe in what the company is trying to accomplish, and I’m looking forward to growing together with it.

Come Join Us

If you’re ready to take on challenges and invest in yourself, your team will back you. Never be afraid to ask questions — at Colorkrew, that’s not seen as a weakness. It’s seen as fundamental.

I hope we can gather more like-wise minded people and succeed in our ambitions together!
