Finding My Colors at Colorkrew

Six months ago, I joined Colorkrew as a software engineer, and it’s amazing how quickly that half-year has flown by. I hoped to find a place where I could grow, contribute meaningfully, and work with people who truly care about what they do, and that’s exactly what I found - plus more good food and laughter than I expected!

Why Colorkrew Stood Out to Me

I’ve been building software professionally for over ten years, so I’ve had the opportunity to gain a fairly wide variety of experiences in both the public sector and private sector, including some independent freelance work. During my most recent job search, I spent a lot of time thinking about what kind of environment I wanted next. I wanted to be part of a team that values creativity and innovation, with the freedom to improve how we work. Over the years I’ve begun to notice a lot of the issues we face involve people and processes rather than problems of a technical nature, and as an engineer, it is often more important to be able to negotiate, communicate, and work well with people than it is to be technically gifted (although technical skills don’t hurt!). It seemed to me that Colorkrew’s mission, to help people around the world color their work with excitement, encompassed the things I was looking for. Not only do we make work a much better experience for our clients, we direct that same passion inward, by using our own products and cultivating a culture of openness and continuous improvement.

Getting Started

I’ve never lived abroad before, so I had several questions and concerns about the process of moving here and setting up my life in Japan, and Kiyo from HR was able to answer every single one. Having her support was one of the main reasons I decided to move overseas and join Colorkrew, and I’m glad I did! From day one, everyone I’ve met has been kind, approachable, and genuinely supportive. Whether it’s working through onboarding tasks, grabbing lunch together, or chatting at company gatherings, I always feel like there is someone I can rely on.

A Culture of Learning and Growth

Since joining, I’ve made notable contributions to several of Colorkrew’s core products and worked on some improvements to our developer experience. There’s a strong culture of ownership: if you see something that can be improved, you’re encouraged to go ahead and make it better. That sense of trust and autonomy is incredibly motivating. Even better, “keep learning” is a core company value, so everything from exploring new technologies, discussing technical approaches, and refining my team’s workflows is a chance to grow and expand my skills. Plus, everyone contributes in their own way, and that mix of perspectives and disciplines keeps things fresh and exciting.

To My Future Teammates

If you’re someone who enjoys solving problems, sharing ideas, and working with people who care deeply about what they do, Colorkrew might be the right place for you. It’s a company that trusts its people, celebrates creativity, and focuses on making work more exciting for everyone.
